Destruction créatrice et disruption / Destructive creation and disruption

Technological innovation involves destructive creation as was shown by Joseph Schumpeter during the last century. New technologies create a new world by destroying the existing one., through successive waves. The industrial revolution destroyed the world of water and wind mills, the automotive car replaced the horse-drawn carriage, the machine eliminated most of the physical labour and now artificial intelligence might eliminate any need of a human intervention whatsoever. Destructive creation is at the core of the capitalistic system, as the key for improving its margin of profit. Innovation becomes the main driver of the economy and the prerequisite of any economic success. The economic progress tends however to conceal the destruction at work within any innovation process. This destruction impacts the environment and the ways of life. If it does not take into account the cultural dimension, it becomes a disruptive transformation which can represent a "new form of barbarism", according to Adorno and Horkheimer, quoted by Bernard Stiegler in a recent book. Such a disruption inverts the project planned by the Enlightenment, at the origin of modernity. Technology is no more driven by the Reason, but, on the contrary, it is Reason which has to adapt itself to its irresistible movement. This situation is made worse by globalization, which makes even more difficult the conciliation between culture and the technological environment; Instead, the technological innovation becomes a tool for the subjugation to a globalized way of life. Bernard Stiegler considers even that the  inability of the human being to conform oneself to the explosive growth of the digital technology leads to a kind of madness. Rather than expanding permanently the creative.destruction, Pierre Caye proposes to favor the concepts of heritage, land development and architecture, which can be preserved and transmitted to the following generations. It is the only way to give a real meaning to sustainable development.
